The
Northern Child Development Center Chiangmai under the control
of department of mental health , Ministry of public Health. the
center provides services for children who have deleyed development,
mental retardation and behavioral problems. The center services
17 provinces of the north. These include Chiangmai, Payao, Chiang
Rai, Lumpang, Lumphun, Prae, Nan, Uttaradit, Pitsanulok, Petchaboon,
Pichit, Sukhothai, Kampangpet, Uthaitani, Nakonsawan, Tak and MeaHongSon.
We began operation on July 4, 1994. the offcially opening ceremony
on January 16, 1996. was presided Her Royal Highness, Princess Maha
Jukri Sirindron.
Our services
include:
1 Medical treatment and diagnosis Services are provided
daily, Monday-Friday from 8.00 am. to 4.30 pm. by a team of physicians,
psychiatrists, physical and occupational therapists, nurses, specail
educator, psychologist and social worker. ��
1.1 AUDITORY BRAIN STEM RESPONE
Computerized examination of children with auditory problems,
delay development and other birth related risks. This service is
provided on Friday from 9.00 am. to 12.00 pm.
1.2 Electroencephalogram and Brain
MappingFor diagnosis of epilepsy and other brain abnormalities.
1.3 Chromosome Analysis For
children with delayed development, mental retardation and other
behavioral problems.
2. Developmental
Promotion Programs
1. Activities for gross motor training
through physical therapy. This include crawling sitting, standing,
walking, Jumping, stepping etc.
2. Actitvities for fine motor training
through occupational therapy. This includes sucking, swallowing,
hand function training, eye-hand coordination training and increasing
attention span.
3. Actitvities for receptive language
skill basic language training with emphasis on listening comprehension.
4. Activities for expressive language
skill training through speech therapy. This includes sound training
and speech organ exercises.
5. Activities for personal social
skills training through group musical therapy, basic communication
training and activities for daily living such as eating, dressing,
etc.
3. Rehabilitation
Children development promotion services are dermonstrated to the
family medical rehabilitation in motor training and sensory control
id provided by physical, occupational and speech therapists.
4. Counselling
Psychological, emotion and social counselling is provided for the
entire family by doctors, psychologist, social worker and trainednurses.
5. Intelligence
Testing Psychotherapy and Behavioral Modification By specially
trained nurses and therapists.
6.Educational
Services. Services to increase public awareness of mental developmental
problems.
7. Dental
Services Dental Services to delayed development and handicapped
children.
8. Community
Psychiatry Reponsible for integrating child development projects
into primary heaith care system - Home Visit for follow up cases
and give counselling - Aet as technology supportes for schools,
NGO and Community child development'

Special Services
1. Telephone Hotlineservice
is available by calling 890240 from 8.00 am. to 4.00 pm. , Monday
to Friday.
2.Relaxation Clinicis available
for the public, especially the children's parents, to help prevent
mental health problems. music therapy and relaxation methods are
available Monday to friday from 8.30 am. to 4.30 pm.
3. Genetic Counselling Clinic
This is an educational clinic for couples. pre-marital, pre-pregnancy
and pregnancy counselling is provided in addition to infertility
and late life pregnancy counselling. This also include couples who
have already had a mental retarded child. Services are available
on Tuesday and Thursday from 9.00 am. to 12.00 pm.
4. Occupationnal Traning is given
To mothers to allow them to earn some income by producing various
products and handicrafts at home tus enabling them to care for their
child.
5. Well-Baby Nursery for the
study of child development. This is a paid service for families
with child care problems. The objectives of this program are:
- To provide a good developmental
atmosphere.

The children are care for by specially trained staff under pediatricians
supervision
